Killarney

Have mostly been lazy since last I posted - lots of sleeping in, eating out, a little bit of golf, a great blues show with the Duffys at the Westport Town Hall Saturday night, and a lot of cloudy and rainy weather.  Very little of what the Irish might call a "grand soft day."  But, I must say, any day is fascinating looking out the windows of our cottage and seeing the endless variety of sun, cloud, shadow, and sky color.  It's been a great stay so far and Padraic and I have plans to play Carne Golf Links and the Ballinrobe Golf Club (and, if great good fortune strikes, a return to the Connemara Links).

But, to see something new, Candee and I headed south of Westport today and drove to Co Kerry.  The county is best known for the tourist attractions of the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, and the Lakes of Killarney.  Stunning, breathtaking countryside.  But we'd both put anything Kerry has to throw at us up against the beauty of Co Mayo and the Connemara region.  Plus Killarney is crawling with tourists and has a real honky-tonk feel about it.  We'll head out to see a bit of the Ring and take a boat ride on the Lake, but we'll miss the homey feel of Westport.

On the way to the Gap of Dunloe, just outside Killarney
