A Quiet Day
I started the day by rousing early from the bed and heading to Westport Golf Club. I was the only player, starting at 7 a.m. and facing a stiff wind and a light to moderate driving rain. I persisted through nine holes and felt virtuous to have both braved the elements and to have returned to the apartment by 9. My newly purchased raingear (actually secured at Sandridge last year, but not needed in the fair and fine weather of our last visit) performed admirably - I was warm and dry throughout the round. We were pleased to later hear from Padraic and to join him and Marion for a latte and a scone. A busy time for them, we are always happy to steal some time to hang out for a while. Padraic did well at Connemara yesterday, scoring an impressive birdie on 17 and besting the lads with 37 points in their Stableford competition.
Candee and I mostly moped around the town, enjoying a schedule of our own - so different from our day-to-day life in Vero. We had a late dinner at The Tavern, sharing mussels, seafood chowder, and crab and salmon croquettes - "bon bons" on the menu. Topped, of course, with a fruit crumble, a lemon tart, and some coffees americano.
The following pictures are from a post-dinner drive to Lecanvey Pier on Clew Bay. Sunset is 10:15 p.m. here...
