To Westport

We were sad to leave our gracious hosts, Robert and Trevor, from the Carnately Lodge in Ballycastle. The b & b was beautifully designed and appointed and we will miss the lovely breakfasts, especially the radiantly translucent smoked salmon. We hope to return in a future trip.

A bit of a drive to Westport, but we were pleased to have arrived early afternoon and to have found our accommodations at the Old Mill to be all they appeared to be on homeaway.com. The apartment is right in the middle of town, just a half a block away from the "octogon" - the center of all the action - pubs, "trad" music, restaurants, shops, etc. Candee was especially pleased to find that we have arrived at the kickoff of the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival, located conveniently next door at our sister hotel, the Clew Bay.

We will spend the next few days exploring the town and early next week set off for day trips around County Mayo and into County Donegal.
