The Cliffs of Moher

Despite my concerns about the weather, we were most fortunate upon our arrival at the Cliffs. As you can see from the pictures, the skies cleared, the sun came out, and we had wonderfully fresh zephyr winds from off the Atlantic. Our resident daredevil Stacey fully enjoyed the Cliffs, as you can see from the accompanying pictures. She hopped the fence, bypassing the extensive safety features and joining most of the young visitors in engaging in some relatively frightening cliff hanging activities (such as the fellow portrayed laying on the ground). As you may remember, the Cliffs present a sheer drop of 650 feet to the ocean.
I have only one friend left - Emily, the British voice of the Garmin. I apparently and most unfortunately had set the GPS for shortest route, rather than fastest route and we were directed through roads probably constructed during the Roman era. It certainly added an hour or so to our trek to the Cliffs. I am universally reviled by my traveling companions; only Carol has tried to apply a soothing balm to my battered ego, repeatedly admiring the “beauty of the scenic drive over.”
A beautiful day nonetheless. A terrific pub lunch at Paddy Burke’s in Clarinbridge on the way over and an elegant dinner in the Old Schoolhouse Restaurant in the same town on our return trip. We tucked Mom into bed when we returned at half ten (10:30), some freshened up, Stacey put on a “cute top,” and we headed to Newman’s for some trad music. It was “sit in” night and approximately twenty locals joined the Dusty Banjos and offered their talents on squeeze box, tin whistle, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. A festive atmosphere, with the exception of one handsome older man, who upon learning we were from Florida, asked if we knew a lively sprite named Dorothy who he had met in Doolin. He called her the Queen of the Doolin Pubs and said he was a much diminished man due to her leaving. Sadder but wiser fellow he.
Unfortunately, posts might be a bit sporadic. There is no internet availability in Cleggan. It is only when we travel to Clifden to market am I able to connect.
